Science in the Chinese Academy of Sciences: SSRF

01-11-2012

The newly released Science Supplement (September 2012) has run a special feature on the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). As China’s largest research platform ever, the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF) was highlighted in this special feature.

The booklet, which is entitled “Science in the Chinese Academy of Sciences”, was produced by Science/AAAS Custom Publishing Office. It has documented succinctly but comprehensively the mission, plan, development and major research breakthroughs of the CAS. SSRF was included in two sections under the heading Major Research Programs and Platforms and “Big Science” Facilities of CAS respectively.

The Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics (SINAP), which operates SSRF, is one of the ten representative research institutes chosen by the CAS to be interviewed and featured in the booklet. Earlier this year in April the Science/AAAS journalist Shawna Williams and photographer Ricky Wong paid a visit to SSRF and interviewed Prof & Dr ZHAO Zhentang, director of SINAP and SSRF, who briefed them on the history, status and achievements of SSRF.
