Experiment Assist System
The Experimental Auxiliary System was in operation in May 2021. It provides various instruments to support relevant experiments in addition to beamline instruments. The system includes four laboratories:  material science laboratory, in-situ experiment supporting laboratory, chemistry and environmental laboratory, and biology and biomedical laboratory. These laboratories are all located at Building M in the campus. Users who want to use these laboratories need reserve the instruments in advance before their formal visit. They can log in the User Project Management System at the website https://user.ssrf.ac.cn/proposals/a/login, and enter the "Experimental Assist System Appointment Management Platform" through "Assist Laboratory" to check the detailed available instruments and make a reservation. The brief are as the following.

Material science laboratory.  It includes three modules: sample processing, sample annealing and sample characterization, and about 20 sets of instruments. These are box high-temperature furnace, high-speed microtome, electronic balance and stereo microscope. The laboratory classifies Raman spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscope, cold field emission transmission electron microscope, atomic force microscope and dual-beam focused ion beam as large equipment, and the four electron microscope pretreatment equipment: precision research machine, ion thinning machine, film coating instrument and plasma cleaning instrument. It supports the users from the beamlines of X-ray diffraction (XRD), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), spectroscopy and others.

In-situ experiment supporting laboratory.  It includes 22 sets of instruments used for high and low temperature environment, high pressure environment, air environment, electromagnetic field environment, mechanical environment and others. Some are temperature change table, cold and hot table, 4K low temperature thermostat, high pressure test system, magnet system, tensile meter, surface detector, etc. It now supports the users from the beamlines of X-ray diffraction (XRD), small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS), X-ray spectroscopy, and others.

Chemistry and environmental laboratory.  It includes four modules: sample preparation, sample pretreatment, in-situ condition assistance before and after synchrotron experiment. The available instruments include electronic balances, tablet presses, ultraviolet spectrophotometers, moisture analyzers, ultrasonic instruments, glove boxes, vacuum drying ovens, freeze dryers, muffle furnaces, chemisorption instruments, in-situ vacuum annealing furnaces, etc. It now supports the users from the beamlines of X-ray spectroscopy such as X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS), SAXS and others.

Biology and biomedical laboratory.  It consists of three functional modules: protein preparation, cell culture and processing, tissue and physiological preparation. About 20 sets  instruments are available, such as isothermal titration calorimeter, crystal automatic observation system, high-pressure freezer, multi-function microplate reader, frozen tissue microtome, fluorescence stereomicroscope and imaging system, and three separate rooms for cell culture room, 4°C constant temperature room and 18°C constant temperature room. It supports the users from the beamlines of protein crystallography, X-ray tomography, soft X-ray imaging, infrared fluorescent imaging and others.
