As part of the SSRF Phase-II project launched in December 2016, BSL-2 Macromolecular Crystallography Beamline(BL10U2) was established as China's first MX beamline with a biosafety protection function, facilitating the acquisition of structural data on pathogens by structural biologists. BL10U2 is aimed at a broad range of moderate-risk infectious viruses that are present in the community and associated with human disease of varying severity. With P2 level protection, the users can carry out the diffraction experiment directly from the active virus particle crystal. Resolving the crystal structure and functionality of viral particles, aiming to develop novel, efficient, and specific detection methods, vaccines, and therapeutic drugs.
