Renzhong Tai

Executive Deputy Director of the SSRF Science Center
Professor, supervisor of PhD students, vice president of the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prof. Tai has been engaged, for years, with applied synchrotron radiation research, development and methodology, as well as with X-ray coherence research and development within the fields of nano-microscopy, nanomachining and dynamic characterization of structured nanoclusters. He has independently developed China's first variable angle plane grating monochromator with an energy resolution of over 10000 at the carbon absorption edge. Prof Tai was responsible of the development of the world's highest energy resolution beamline, the Dreamline, and of the successful development of a soft X-ray spectromicroscopy beamline and endstation, with both high spatial and energy resolution. He proposed a dual-energy contrast analysis method and successfully applied it to the two-dimensional nanomaterials within the field of environmental catalysis research. Prof. Tai proposed a new approach for the coherent X-ray speckle spectroscopy technology aimed at studying the phase transition of the ferroelectric materials and understanding the fundamental principles behind the high-performance of nanoclustered materials.
